Crash Slows Traffic at Route 47, CR 657

SOUTH DENNIS -- No injuries were reported in a July 20 motor vehicle accident that tied up traffic for some time here on County Route 657 and Route 47.

Belleplain Emergency Corps, Dennisville Fire Department and State Police responded to the crash about 6:15 p.m. near Southville Diner. Units arrived to find a BMW had left the road, struck a traffic light and continued on into the wooded area.

State Police notified the state Department of Transportation that traffic light would need to be replaced. The Cape May County Fire Police were called to the scene to direct traffic while crews worked to clear the scene.

The accident is under investigation by State Police Woodbine Station.

Route 47 is becoming a death trap. I know because I live there. I drive that road 20 miles back and forth to work everyday. There are many reckless drivers every single day. People pass on solid lines all the time. It is scary to enter and exit my driveway.
To the reply that Route 47 is patrolled "all the time", move to my house which is on Route 47 in Dennis Twp. near Stites Nursey and then tell me that that section of the road is patrolled "all the time".

to the Mon, 07/21/2008 - 11:12pm poster. NJSP were enroute to a report of an eratic black BMW on 47 passing on the double lines when they crashed. 47 is patrolled all the time by Woodbine and Middle Twp. they can't be everyware at all times give them a brake it's summer time and they are swamped with 911 calls

This reckless driver passed us at a double yellow line on Rt. 47- He cut right in front of me and the traffice was going about 40 miles an hour. He was driving erratically and blowing past car after car on a double yellow line. He even past 4 cars at one time on a double yellow. I commented to my passengers that they guy was going to cause an accident. Sure enough, this lunatic crashed into the pole not even three minutes later. He had a small child in the car with him. We reported the erratic driving to the police. I hope he was given a DUI test. Completely irresponsible. I guess he didn't beat "the traffic" that day. Maybe he will learn a lesson with a large fine and some driving lessons.

This accident was caused by a careless driver. He was speeding down Rt. 47. passing cars on a double yellow line. He passed as many as three or four cars at a time. We knew he would cause some kind of accident. Thank god, no innocent people were hurt as a result of his reckless driving.

Seriously what is up with the police that patrol this road. This car rips apart a traffic light while a day later a teenager is killed by a driver head on. Police need to start patrolling besides playing on the computers in ur car.
