WILDWOOD — The Moving Wall, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. was escorted onto Five Mile Beach July 15 by patriotic motorcyclists who met it at the Cape May County Veterans Monument at the Ocean View Rest Stop on the Garden State Parkway.
It was taken to Fox Park where formal opening ceremonies are planned July 17 at 5 p.m.
The traveling “Wall that Heals” will be on display from July 17 -20. The Moving Wall first visited the area several years ago in North Wildwood.
The visit is being made possible by donations to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 955, of which Greg Mazzotta is president.

I just came from the "Wall"....as a Vietnam Vet I can't tell you how moving it was and when my son asked me if I knew any of the names on the wall...I couldn't answer him and he said to me..."I understand" If you haven't visited it yet....take your family and go...it's a beautiful tribute and memorial to our troops who perished in Vietnam.

To 7-18-08 @ 9:45 PM. Who are you kidding by stating, "Not Posted by the LTTA" Did you poll all 20 of your members? And if your numbers are greater you are going to tell us you polled, called, wrote a letter, faxed or e-mailed everyone of your pathetic little cronies and they all agreed they did not write it??? And then you have the gall to accuse the writer of being "one of lower township's finest" !! All of your members are frauds ! Your "Cult" makes up less than one percent of the township taxpayers in Lower Township. You people have become nothing more than an annoying fly that keeps pestering everyone. You take unprovoked attacks at the police, fire departments, road department and now Vietnam Veterans ! Maybe we can call the mosquito commission to have them spray around your houses. A little DDT for the annoying insects. Maybe the LTTA should "purge themselves of such immature and possibly unstable slanderers".

It's all Bush's fault.

I think the few hours and couple of gallons of gas used by the Officer was well spent. He was the town's representative at this worthy function. You talk about respect for the veterans? Were you there? If you were, you would have seen Rio Grande Blvd. lined on both sides with people of all ages cheering and waving American flags. I bet you find a way to get to each town meeting, though! So, for people like you, be glad the town had the foresight to send a representative in your stead.

The few gallons of gas and the couple hours of time that Officer used was wisely spent. He was representing the town of Lower, and it's citizens. If you were there, you would have seen people of all ages lining the street on Rio Grande Blvd. cheering and waving American flags as they all came by. You talk about respect for our veterans...sorry, but I didn't see you there. Must not have been worth your effort. But you have no quams about complaining about your town, that had the foresight to send a representative in your place! I bet you have no problem making all the meetings at town hall, though!

The LTTA appreciates all our veterans and what they have given for our safety and this great country. The LTTA appreciates all our fine officers in the Lower Township police department; but we will still continue to review your budget for potential efficiencies.

I guess the LTTA will want special acknowledgement for all their work wth Veterans now. TOOT TOOT TOOT....lets blow our own horn....what a disgrace...all the people who give so much and never ask for a thing in return.....and the LTTA has to "once again" bring attention to itself. Guess what....many of our Police Oficers are veterans....and most of them are enmeshed in our community giving back...they coach, they umpire, the volunteer........maybe the next time treps from the LTTA spout off tghey'll remember that!

The LTTA has many Vietnam veteran members.
The LTTA also drives the van weekly, without pay, to transport our disabled veterans to and from their medical treatments and appointments in Vineland.
They don't dislike or disrespect Veterans.....THEY ARE VETERANS.

HMMMMM....somehow I don't think the LTTA needs any help in giving itself a bad name...they've succeeded in doing that all on their own!!!!!
Fri, 07/18/2008 - 9:45am
The 6:57 posting (in screaming capital letters) was not posted by the Taxpayers Association but by an imposter out to give them a bad name, perhaps one of Lower's finest themselves miffed that taxpayer activists might influence salaries. A professional force would purge themselves of such immature and possibly unstable slanderers.

To the piece of garbage that posted the 6:57 AM message...I understand that every community that had the "honor"...(something that I am sure you haven't got a clue about!!!!)
of having the "WALL" pass through it, provided part of the honor guard/escort as it passed through their town. Lower Township was honored to have the "Wall" pass through part of it's borders....hence the "HONOR GUARD"....and if you don't get.....who cares!!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA and WELCOME HOME

the 6:57 AM is typical of the people in the LTTA...what a disgraceful comment they should disband and at the least get rid of the *** that calls herself the President and was probably the author of this post.

TO THE COMMENTER AT 6:57AM ON 7/16/08 DO YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME. DID YOU EVER STOP TO THINK THAT MAYBE THE LOWER TOWNSHIP OFFICER WAS ON HIS OWN TIME? OR PERHAPS HE MAY HAVE A RELATIVE THAT HAS THEIR NAME ON THE WALL? OR MAYBE JUST MAYBE HE WAS DOING IT OUT OF RESPECT AND REPRESENTING THE TOWNSHIP IN A MANNER IN WHICH THESE SOLIDERS DESERVE? DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND THINIK BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN. I AM WILLING TO VENTURE A GUESS THAT YOU WERE EITHER A DRAFT DODGER OR ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT THOUGHT OUR SOLIDERS DO NOT DESERVE THE RESPECT. NOW HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE SOMEONE CRITIZE YOU THAT DOES NOT EVEN KNOW YOU!

"WHY WAS A LOWER TOWNSHIP POLICE MOTORCYCLE ESCORTING THIS WALL INTO WILDWOOD ?"
..... because it was the right thing to do. Several agencies, Wildwood, North Wildwood, Middle Twp, Lower Twp and the NJ State Police participated because they have motorcycle officers. It was afterall a motorcycle run with several hundred motorcycles. Who better to help a worthy cause like this than motor officers? I'd say your "hard earned dollar" was well spent.

WHY WAS A LOWER TOWNSHIP POLICE MOTORCYCLE ESCORTING THIS WALL INTO WILDWOOD ? ANOTHER WASTE OF LOWER TOWNSHIP'S TAXPAYERS DOLLARS !!
JOIN THE LOWER TOWNSHIP TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION AND LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!! THERE WAS NO REASON A LOWER TOWNSHIP POLICE OFFICER WAS ASSIGNED TO THIS EVENT !! ANOTHER WASTE OF MY HARD EARNED DOLLAR!!

This wall is brought to you by the lives of nearly 60,000 Americans who died in the jungles and rice paddies. They were young and brave and scared, but they followed their country's call to the bitter end. I hope that thousands of people will visit this wonderful memorial while it is here in Wildwood. The names of local men are on it as well as family members who we will never see again on this side. Anyone who visits this memorial and comes away dry-eyed is a very different person than I am.

When any of the Traveling Walls is displayed at the home towns of those named on it, visitors leave touching remembrances to their fallen friends and relatives, just like at the Vietman Veterans Memorial in Washington.
The web site named The Virtual Wall at www.VirtualWall.org also has thousands of remembrances in the form of letters, poems, photographs, and citations.
THE VIRTUAL WALL web site does not accept fees, donations, subscriptions, or advertising in order to honor the fallen.
