WILDWOOD — Irina Siborenko, a Russian student spending her summer working and living in this city, suffered severe abrasions and bruising after a Wildwood Beach Patrol vehi-cle rolled on top of her while she was sunbathing on the Roberts Avenue beach June 11.
Siborenko was treated at Cape Regional Medical Center for abrasions and heavy bruising along the left side of her body and was released the same day. However, according to her friend and coworker Anetta Khaygsukhova, the injury left Siborenko embarrassed and un-able to work as a waitress for the Red Oak Buffet for at least a week.
“She has tire marks all over her arm and down her hip,” said Khaygsukhova. “She hasn’t been able to sleep, much less carry a tray.”
Siborenko did not want to comment on her injuries further after speaking with the Wild-wood Police Department.
Wildwood Beach Patrol Chief Lou Cirelli said that neither he nor any member of the beach patrol could comment on the incident. An Open Public Records Request was filed in order to obtain the official police report on the accident.
According to the report, the incident is considered an accident caused primarily due to Siborenko’s position in the blind spot of the driver.
Ryan Meyer, a supervisor for the Wildwood Beach Patrol, told investigating Police Officer Mark Damico he was driving the beach patrol pickup northbound, about midway between the waterline and the boardwalk, when he heard lifeguards call over the radio that things at the Roberts Avenue location were OK.
Meyer told police that nothing had come over the radio about an incident so he decided to stop by the Roberts Avenue to check on the situation. He told police that he turned the truck south and approached the lifeguard stand at the waterline, according to police reports.
Fellow lifeguard Michael Syrnick, who was manning that location, told Meyer that he had been assisting Alberto Quinteros and his grandchildren exit the water.
Meyer told police that after he talked with Syrnick, he let his foot off the brake and began idling forward, turning west toward the boardwalk, when Quinteros and surrounding sun-bathers yelled for him to stop.
Meyer, according to the police report, said that he got out of the truck and saw Siborenko lying underneath the vehicle on her stomach.
Siborenko, who was lying to the right of the truck, had said she was unaware of any activity around her or the truck pulling up near her because she was sleeping.
The report states that Meyer, Syrnick and Quinteros helped Siborenko out from under-neath the truck, where she was transported to the Schellenger Avenue beach patrol aid sta-tion and then to Cape Regional Medical Center.

Besides the ignorant *** saying things like "arn't these russian workers expendable? who cares" and "eh, run em' all over", how ignorant must the people at the newspaper be for actually printing those comments. Let me guess "Freedom of Speech". What a crock... If it wasn't for these foreign students coming over here to work, how would your sorry fools enjoy your vacation when nobody is around to run the rides or games, or take your order at the restaurants... Wake up and get a life.
And this isn't anonymous. My name is Steve Calton and you can find me at the Nassau Inn in Wildwood Crest.

I've read many callous comments about stories here, but the one about Russian workers "Being expendable, Who Cares?" shows how low anonymous comments can go. Any human being is precious, not expendable. If it was the commenter's daughter or spouse who was run over, it would not be so convenient to make a snide remark. If the city was so confident of itself, why did it make the newspaper go through the Open Public Records Act to get a report from the police department? The newspaper should be lauded for uncovering this dreadful accident on such a well-populated summer attraction as the Wildwood beach.

As servants in the industries that drives our economy, we have to be overly vigilent to the protection of every visitor to our island, whether on the amusments, the beach or in the ocean. Integrity is gained by the admission of the truth no matter what the cost.

This person wasn't hurt as badly as the other victim. Possibly because this lifeguard is very thin and fit unlike the other lifeguard involved who was overweight causing the truck to weigh more. Lifeguards should be required to take driver safety courses.

This was just an unfortunate accident that happened to a wonderful lifeguard.

I love it - they blame the accident on the victim! How typical. I hope this young lady gets a good lawyer (preferably one out of county)!

What a shame! This is not the first time, someone has been injured on Wildwood Beach by drivers of vehicles-in season. I smell another cover up and I am not surprised no one can get any information, from officials regarding the incident. There was no mention of a drug/alcohol test on the operator of the vehicle. After partying all night, I can only wonder what the BAC would be. Perhaps the police should administer random alcohol tests and catch those who have hangovers, or are still under the influence. How can it be justified that " the incident is considered an accident caused primarily due to Siborenko's position in the blind spot of the driver"? Are not most accidents caused by the same circumstance, yet regular citizens get tickets all the time.
