Myfoxphilly’s Hotlist: Jersey Shore Edition, powered by CityVoter, launched a “Best of” contest inviting visitors to the website to choose the Jersey Shore’s best businesses.
Two outstanding Cape May landmarks operated by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) captured the most votes and won top honors in their respective categories.
In the entertainment category, the Emlen Physick Estate won Best Museum and the Cape May Lighthouse won Best Lighthouse in the outdoors category.

The Emlen Physick Estate, located at 1048 Washington St., placed first in the online competition for best museum, beating out some tough contenders: Historic Cold Spring Village (second place), Museum of New Jersey Maritime History (third place), The Jersey Shore's Children Museum (fourth place), and the Noyes Museum of Art (fifth place).

In 1970, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) was formed to save the Physick Estate from the wrecking ball, and now operates the fully restored property as Cape May’s only Victorian house museum.
Built in 1879, the 18-room Physick Estate provides an in-depth glimpse of the period, reflecting the Victorian lifestyle through the way the Physick family and their servants lived, worked, and played.

Visitors to the estate can enjoy an entertaining and educational guided tour of the house with its new theme, “Upstairs Downstairs: Servants and the Served.”
Tours are offered daily and times vary.

The Cape May Lighthouse was voted best lighthouse at the Jersey shore.
Other Jersey shore lighthouses in the competition included the following: Hereford Inlet Lighthouse (second place), Barnegat Light Historical Society Museum (third place), Absecon Lighthouse (fourth place), and Sea Girt Lighthouse (fifth place).

The Cape May Lighthouse, located in Lower Township’s Cape May Point State Park, is one of the oldest continually operating lighthouses in the United States.
It has helped navigators enter the Delaware Bay since 1859, and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
It was completely restored by MAC between 1987 and 2001. The current tower is actually the third such structure to be built on the site.
The lighthouse stands 145 feet to the watch room and outside gallery (current viewing platform), and has 199 cast-iron steps.
Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for a panoramic view of the Jersey Cape and Atlantic Ocean. The Cape May Lighthouse is open daily throughout the summer.
Admission to the Visitors’ Orientation Center and the ground floor of the Lighthouse is free.

The online competition ran from April 14 to May 11. During the contest, people could log onto www.myfoxphilly.com and nominate and vote for their favorite Jersey shore businesses as well as share photos and personal reviews.
Winners received recognition on the web and FOX 29’s ‘Good Day Philadelphia.’

To show appreciation for Cape May County’s support throughout the year, MAC will host its annual Community Day on Friday, June 13 and offer county residents free admission to the Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May Lighthouse, and the Historic District Trolley Tour.
Donations of non-perishable food to be given to the Cape May Food Closet are appreciated and will be collected on Community Day.
