Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood all are being named among New Jersey's Top Ten Beaches in a public survey completed this spring by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium (NJMSC), working in conjunction with New Jersey Sea Grant, the Richard Stockton College Coastal Research Center and the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism.
Official rankings will be announced by NJMSC on May 22.

NJMSC's survey ranks beach communities in categories of Ecotourism, Family Vacation, Tourism, Events and Top Ten Beach overall. The resorts will receive a commemorative sign denoting the honor for display to the public.

Long renowned as the gem of vacation destinations of the Jersey Shore, more than nine million visitors flock to the Wildwoods every year, taking advantage of New Jersey's largest, free beach.
Visitors cavort along its two-mile Boardwalk and enjoying an abundant array of fishing and water related recreational activities, great golfing, innumerable shops and restaurants, 50s era "Doo-Wop" architectural tours and more than 175 festivals and events to entertain young and old throughout the year.

This is the first public poll on beaches ever taken by NJSMC.
The organization has researched the state's beaches since 1986 to calculate sand volume changes and the topographic profiles of the dunes, beach, and seafloor to a depth of 12 feet along the Atlantic Ocean coastline, Delaware Bay and Raritan Bay, utilizing this information to provide regional information on coastal zone changes and long term trends.
This year the scientific data and public survey are being combined to obtain the results, with the public's portion ultimately deciding which beaches are the best.

Once the official rankings are announced, no doubt they will confirm what resort residents and visitors have known all along—that it's hard to find a better beach than in the Wildwoods.

The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Authority was formed in 1993 as the Greater Wildwood Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) to consolidate the tourism economy of its three founding municipalities, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, and North Wildwood.
The Authority operates the Wildwoods Convention Center and acts as the island's destination marketing organization overseeing the development, research, planning, marketing, advertising, promotion, public and media relations encompassing the tourism, meeting, and convention industry in the Wildwoods.

Additionally, the GWTIDA funds, assists with and hosts more than 175 annual special events to enhance the visitor experience and extend the tourism season, including the Thunder On The Sand Race Series, Family Nights On The Boardwalk, Fireworks, Pirates Weekend, Classic Car Shows, International Kite Festival, Irish and Italian Festivals and the National Marbles Tournament, among others.

Congratulations to Mayor Carl Groon and Wildwood Crest for being named among New Jersey's Top Ten Beaches. It's a shame that the Beach Patrol is the LOWEST PAID in all of Cape May County. As a former guard and yearly beach patron I think that this needs to be adressed.

Good luck with retaining employees and getting quality recruits this year.
