Come and enjoy a lively musical presentation “Mermaids, Pirates, and Sea Chanteys” by folklorist and singer Nancy G. Cochrane at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31. The program will be held at the Main Branch of the Library, 30 Mechanic Street, Court House.
You will tap your toes and clap your hands as you hear some of the most infectious and well-loved sea chanteys ever to have graced the great clipper ships and fishing boats of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The ballads tell of great high sea tales of travels from the Caribbean to Australia and around the world. This program precedes the Cold Spring Village’s “Celtic Festival” the following weekend where Cochran will be a strolling minstrel and puppeteer/storyteller.
Nancy G. Cochrane, Strolling Minstrel/Tunes and Tales, with a vocal sound reminiscent of Joan Baez, picks a 12 string guitar, autoharp, and dulcimer to accompany the best Celtic, Ethnic, and Early American tunes.
