The Robert Shackleton Playhouse of the Cape May Stage is a place where theatre arts thrive and flourish and the ‘Walk of Recognition' leads to the front doors of the beautifully restored historic building. As the theatre continues to grow and develop, the outdoor piazza located in front of the Playhouse has become a gathering-place for performers, audiences and members of the Cape May community. The Equity theatre company is excited to offer families and businesses a very special way to secure a lasting place of honor in the heart of the downtown Historic district of Cape May while supporting the final stages of the extensive building restoration.

Cape May Stage Executive Director Joe Pannullo says, “We invite all citizens of southern New Jersey to participate in a Project Encore initiative that will forever link the past to the future - the Cape May Stage 'Walk of Recognition'. The theatre’s “Buy-a-Brick” program is a special way to recognize a loved one, relative, business, or friend, or even a special moment in your life. For $150, families can make a mark permanently on a brick inscribed with a personal message.”

Pannullo continues, “Your name carved in a brick will symbolize the spirit you feel for Cape May, and the Arts in Cape May. These bricks will be hand-etched and laid geometrically on the walkway leading from Lafayette Street to the steps of the theatre. Local citizens will see your name, the name of a loved one or your business name on a regular basis - forever. Friends of the theatre from far and wide will enjoy a memorable stroll on the Walk of Recognition when they visit Cape May. Participating in the Buy-A-Brick program demonstrates your commitment to help Cape May Stage cover the costs for the recent restoration and renovation of the historic building.

“Celebrate the life of another or honor a son, daughter, teacher or friend. You are only limited by your imagination (and by 15 characters per line).

Everyone in the Cape May community is invited to participate in the Cape May Stage Walk of Recognition. Project Encore is a community-supported project and everyone is doing his or her part. Don't be left out!” concludes Pannullo.

The project has already been greeted with enthusiasm as a way to commemorate the 20-year history of Cape May Stage and the many people that have contributed to the theatre’s tradition.
