, Nintendo Wii is a physically interactive video game

For those who don’t keep up with the latest technologies, Nintendo Wii is a physically interactive video game that is sweeping the nation. Playing Wii requires the use of a special joy-stick that literally incorporates your body’s movements into the game. Thus, if you are playing Wii Baseball, you would take a batter's stance and swing at a video baseball, just as you would if you were standing at home plate inside Yankee stadium.

Since Wii has become so popular over recent months, Sea Isle’s Recreation Department and the Sea Isle City Taxpayers Association (SICTA) have decided to join forces and host a Nintendo Wii Youth Tournament on May 2 and 3. The tournament, which will include bowling, baseball, golf and tennis competitions, will take place at the Sea Isle City Public School gymnasium, 4501 Park Road.

The Wii Tournament is open to all students in grades 4 through 12 who live in Sea Isle City. There is no entrance fee to participate, however, students under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Also, a Sea Isle address is required at registration to participate in the tournament. Family members and other adults who are eager to see Wii in action are also invited to stop by and watch the fun.

Students in grades 8 through 12 will compete on Friday, May 2, 7 to 9 p.m. Students in grades 4 through 7 will compete on Saturday, May 3, 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Certificates of achievement will be awarded to the winners of each sport after both the Friday and Saturday competitions. Also, one lucky student from the tournament will take home a free Wii system, courtesy of SICTA. That winner will be selected during a random drawing to be held after the final game on Saturday.

The deadline to register for the tournament is Monday, April 28. To register, or to get additional information about the Wii Tournament, phone the Recreation Department, (609) 263-0050.
