ERMA — A Lower Township police vehicle, driven by Sgt Thomas Beeby, was involved in a crash April 14 at 3:37 p.m. with a vehicle driven by Stephanie L. Hannum of Sheridan Boulevard at the Shunpike Road and Sheridan Boulevard intersection.

Since the crash involved a supervisor’s vehicle, command personnel and investigators went to the scene for photographs and to assess the scene and injuries.

According to police, Beeby sustained a lower back injury. He was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment and later released.

Hannum and a young child in the rear seat were treated by Lower Township Rescue Squad and released.

Police said Beeby was traveling southbound on Shunpike Road when Hannum’s vehicle allegedly failed to yield as it entered Shunpike Road at Sheridan Boulevard. In an attempt to avoid a crash, Beeby applied brakes and turned away from the vehicle before impact in order to avoid a direct collision.

In a release, police credited that action with preventing a more serious accident.

Hannum was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to yield to a stop sign.

The police vehicle was driven away. Hannum’s vehicle had to be towed due to heavy front-end damage.

Get over it people - He had permision to use the lower trucks , as did everyone else that borrowed them for years before all this started. It was also heard by all at the scene the young lady exclaimed, " I didn't even look". Give the guy a break, he works hard to protect us and the accident could have been much worse if he wasn't an attentive and good driver.

The sign DOES NOT say YIELD!!!!!!! It says STOP on the big red stop sign. But the female ran the STOP sign anyway! Maybe you would like to take a look at the accident scene and you could see for yourself. Also lets not use this forum to bring up history get over it! I live in the area of the accident and the female driver was CLEARLY WRONG!!!!! How about her baby in the back she happened to forget about? I guess she is still a perfect upstanding citizen right? My first concern after an accident was my children not my car that can be replaced. Seems like alot of people in this forum like to bash cops. I will say this is not the place to do it. Try & stick to the subject at hand.

I agree its funny how ppl bash on cops all the time if they do wrong.... If it was you that was in trouble or she hit you there wouldnt be a problem but because it was a lower township police officer hes at blame! Grow up no one is perfect!

What I would like to know is............who determined that she ran the stop sign, (which the
newspaper reads....YIELD!!!!!!!!! It seems that the cops in cape may county go pretty
fast for no reason and figure who's going to give them a ticket. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHY THIS IS.

What is also amazing is the fact that you read the article & missed the fact it said SHE ran a stop sign! The officer was working on the clock not for personal reasons how immature can you be! Also this was the young ladys 2nd accident in 2 weeks, she has only had her license a short amount of time. She was more worried about her car then her infant in the back seat!!!!! Now who really is at fault now. Maybe you should know all sides of the story before you make a comment like that! My best to Officer Beeby & his family for a speedy recovery!

Looks like the Lower Twp Taxpayers Assoc has found a new forum to bash our Police Officers......

So you are gonna stick up for him? He was the one in the wrong when he took a township vehicle (which I pay taxes on), to make money for himself! Lower police have never done me wrong, but I did like the person's joke.

PS. I am sure he was protecting the township when he was using the township truck with his company name on the side of it as well! Was it an undercover operation? Swat? etc?

He was driving the vehicle for both personal and public purposes - One by protecting the PUBLIC and two for PERSONALLY protecting you when you call the Police........

I guess the person reading the article above doesn't know how to read correctly (or spell either....ridiculous is spelled with an i) it clearly states that the "Lady" failed to yield at the stop sign causing the crash. It's funny that right away the Police are automatically at fault no matter what the situation. I would love to be around the day you have to call the Lower Township Police for help and they are there in a matter of minutes I guess than they wouldn't be at fault to help you out right??? Of course they wouldn't!!!

I 'm guessing people don't how to read correctly (or spell right for that matter...ridiculous is spelled with an i) the article clearly states that the girl driving the other car RAN THE STOP SIGN therefore, that is why she got the ticket. Funny how it always seems to be the Police Officer's fault all the time except of course when you need them than it doesn't count right????

Learn how to spell .

The police car probably caused the accident and they still give the other lady a ticket. rediculous
