Dancing Machine” will be held on Thursdays in March and April, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Woodbine Elementary School.
There is a great program being held during the months of March and April. It is a dance workshop being sponsored by the Girl Scouts and supported by the Puerto Rican Action Committee. “Dancing Machine” will be held on Thursdays in March and April, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Woodbine Elementary School. It is open to all children, not just those attending the Woodbine school. It will include hip-hop, ballet, lyrical and modern dance. What a great opportunity for kids. I hope many will take advantage of it. For more information, call Maria Avilles at 364-4867.
One of the newest businesses in town is the Profound Beauty Shop, housed in the Woodbine Wellness Center. Priscilla Ramirez is a well-known beautician who has a huge following. She decided it was time to strike out on her own. She was born and raised in Woodbine and still lives here, so opening in town was the right fit. Priscilla welcomes new clients and looks forward meeting you. Stop in to check out her other services. The shop has only been open for a few months, but Priscilla plans to have a full service salon in the near future. I had the joy of teaching Priscilla’s son, Larry, a great kid and a super athlete in both football and basketball. I asked Priscilla why she chose the name “Profound” for her shop and she told me that it means “inspired” and that she was always inspired by her former employer, April Lassor, who owns Creations salon, where Priscilla worked for a number of years. I always thought Larry was inspired by his mom to try to work hard and measure up. I'm sure Larry, in turn, will be an inspiration to his little brother, Avierre.
Since we often do trivia in this column, maybe you can answer some “Woodbine” trivia. What was the original store on the spot where the Wellness Center is now? How about the Puerta Rican Action Committee building, what was there? What originallly stood on the site of the present Woodbine Elementary school?
Woodbine Elementary School is having kindergarten and preschool round-up on March 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on March 19 from 9:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you have a little one ready for school, don't miss it.
I hope everyone enjoyed the Polish dinner at Saint Casimir Church. Don't forget, the Knights of Columbus have Sunday breakfast once a month.
Oh. yes, we are still walking. Now that daylight-saving time is here you may want to meet us at the Gazebo on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. (That's 7 a.m.).
