To The Editor:
As anyone knows, the wind blows down here at the shore. A lot. Offshore it blows even harder. And 200 feet up, harder still. So with all that wind, why don't we have wind farms off the coast?
Denmark has them. Germany has them. Spain has them. Texas has them and let's not forget Atlantic City. Wind turbines are a proven technology. Safe, clean, and much cheaper than nuclear; in fact, they are as cheap as oil driven generation. So what's the hold up?
A group called Cape Wind Associates has proposed a wind farm between Nantucket and Cape Cod. Despite clearing environmental regulations, the project has been held up for two years because of objections from wealthy seaside homeowners, including Ted Kennedy. Mainly because they think it would spoil their view. Well, that, to my way of thinking is a really poor reason for continuing to pour hundreds of thousands of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
We don't need wind farms in 2015 or 2020. We need them now. Right now. We need them off Wildwood, off Rehobeth. and off Atlantic City. But where are the voices of Van Drew? Of LoBiondo? Of Corzine? Where are the voices of concerned citizens, parents and grandparents? It's time to speak out to demand some action and not just talk.
The Web site of Cape Wind Associates gives the current wind speed there and how much electricity would be generated and how many pounds of green house gases would be saved by having the wind farm in place. The introductory Web site is www.capewind.org/, and the specific site for the wind and electricity produced is capewind. whgrp.com/.
To compare the wind down here, go to the NOAA buoy 10 miles off Rehobeth beach at www.wunderground.com/MAR/buoy/44009.html.

With our environmental lobbyist groups ruling NJ.....we may never get a wind farm. Who cares if wind farms can produce much needed clean energy....what about the bird that might fly into them, or the devastation to the sea beds the base of these windmills might cause? People need to complain to our legislators, the endangered species of the shore human residents need help.

it's always the same group of people that whine about high energy costs that keep us from expanding our resourses. aside of the greenhouse gases, it makes me mad that we are giving confiscatory funds to the middle east and chavez for their oil.
