GREEN CREEK- Below freezing temperatures mixed with rain and snow caused extremely hazardous conditions for early morning commuters on February 14.
At 2:17 a.m. Middle Township police discovered a motor vehicle crash on Route 47 at approximately mile post 6 in Green Creek. During a routine patrol, Patrolman Matt Martino observed an overturned vehicle with the driver lying in the southbound lane of the road.
The driver, identified as Jessica Genovese, was ejected from her vehicle. Investigation showed that Genovese was traveling south on Route 47, when she left the road and struck a utility pole.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle when the accident occurred. The driver was transported to Atlantic City Medical Center.
That section of the road was closed throughout the night due to the utility pole being snapped in half and wires that were across the highway.
Green Creek Fire Company and Cape May County Fire Police assisted at the scene. The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
The accident is being investigated by Patrolman Matthew Martino and Detective Stocker.
