Project Homeless Connect Schedules Wildwood Stop

WILDWOOD -- On Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the county will be participating in the Project Homeless Connect at the First Baptist Church, 230 E. Maple Ave.,
Freeholder Gerald Thornton and the Department of Human Services announced Jan. 22.

The project is a “successful homeless outreach program that began in San Francisco, Calif. and offers the community an opportunity to aid the homeless by providing much needed services and support,” according to a release.

During this one day, one stop event, social service agencies will provide information on topics such as housing, social security, veteran’s services, food stamps and mental health services.

Also, the Cape May County Department of Health, VIM, and the Parrish Nurses Association will be on site to provide health information as well as blood pressure and cholesterol screenings. Other agencies that will be participating at the event include The Board of Social Services, CARA, Cape Counseling Services, Social Security, Cape Human Resources, Cape Assist, PRAC, EIRC, Exchange Club Family Center, DYFS, and United Way.

In addition to a hot lunch and agency information, the United Way food pantry and clothes closet will be open. Cloth bags filled with personal care items will also be available for participants.

This is the second year Cape May County has participated in the event. Last year 50 people attended and many were enrolled for social and health services.
