RIO GRANDE -- U.S. Postal Service carriers were busy after their rounds on Dec. 8 gathering hundreds of bags of non-perishable food, left by mailboxes by generous donors to help the needy of the county.

The collection, an annual solicitation by carriers, was gathered at Rio Grande and Wildwood post offices starting at about 3:45 a.m. The food was then forwarded to food pantries.

Those area food pantries have been hard pressed as more and more families turn to them to feed their families.
