MANALAPAN — Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti was honored, Oct. 13 by the Mid Atlantic Regional Archives New Jersey Caucus for her leadership over the Cape May County Clerk’s archival records program.
Fulginiti accepted the MARAC/NJ Caucus Institutional Award for Excellence during the Archives and History Day Celebration hosted by the County of Monmouth Archives and Records Center. Archivist Diana L. Hevener shared recognition for her important role in overseeing the County Clerk’s Archives Program.
The program was praised for excellence in preservation of the collections, which date back to 1692, and for the access provided to the public through outreach activities such as the annual Archives Month workshops held in the county clerk’s Office. This year on Oct. 10 local history buffs gathered at the County Clerk’s Office for a workshop on records research conducted by Architectural Historian Michael Conley of Dennisville, followed by a talk on historic cemeteries by Alex Bennett of Lower Township and a walking tour of the historic First Baptist Church Cemetery led by local historian Susan Armour of North Wildwood.
Fulginiti and the archives program were cited by Gary Saretzky of the MARAC/NJ Caucus for commitment to conserving historical records and for innovations in preserving records through technology.
