SEA ISLE CITY –– According to City Council President Mike McHale, it looks like this barrier island community will remain a part of the county library system, but wants to have its promised facility built in a different location.
By a show of hands at a meeting Oct. 6, McHale estimated less that ten percent of over 100 people wanted to rebuild the library at its current location on JFK Boulevard in the heart of the city’s business district.
The vast majority of residents were split between a site at 48th Street or on the elementary school property on Park Road.
The lack of parking in the downtown area was one of the main reasons residents wanted to move the library facility.
McHale said negotiations were ongoing and nothing is finalized, but the county had agreed to work with the city on the library’s location and amenities in order to keep Sea Isle in the library system.
