Why Marketplace?

“Word of mouth” has always been an important aspect of business development. This direct, customer-to-customer, communication occurs frequently on the Web. Businesses reputations are being developed – pro or con. Businesses can’t “control” this conversation, but they can significantly influence it by being aware and being involved. Marketplace empowers business owners by bringing the conversation to them – giving them the opportunity to participate in the conversation, by listening and speaking.

Marketplace allows users to submit content to the profile, in the form of reviews, photos, events, and tips. Business owners will know whenever content is posted to their profile page, with email alerts for ratings, photos, etc. The owner can then reply, as appropriate.

Marketplace advertisers may elect to disable ratings and reviews on their Marketplace listing. However, we strongly discourage doing so. Disabling this feature on Marketplace does not hinder the conversation; rather it moves it to another place – where the business owner is less likely to hear it.

Reputation management is a critical component of business development strategy. Through self-service profile management, response to reviews, and business blogging, Marketplace gives business owners the opportunity to be directly involved in this important work, and allows the community to share it.
