The Borough of Avalon will be kicking off its 2009 holiday season on Friday, November 27th
with a special tree lighting event at the Avalon Veterans Plaza.
The Borough and the 7 Mile Business Community Association are presenting a host of holiday events
and activities throughout the weekend. The tree lighting event is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm, and will
include holiday music, and the lighting of the Borough’s holiday tree. Right after the tree is lit, Santa will
make his first appearance in Avalon and children will be able to have their photos taken while sitting on
Santa’s lap. All children will receive a gift bag for stopping by. There will be face painters and balloon
shape makers to entertain the children as well. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.
Prior to the tree lighting, there will be plenty of activities to get people in the holiday spirit. From
Noon-4:00pm, Sturdy Savings Bank will host an ornament making event. Underneath of the 7MBCA’s
tent, there will be a pine cone ornament making session, face painting, hair braiding sponsored by Fusions,
an ornament making table sponsored by John and Jeannette Molnar, a bake sale and poinsettia sale, and
donations being accepted for the Holy Redeemer food bank. The tent will be located next to Veterans Plaza.
On Saturday, November 28th the day begins with a special Zumba Fest at the Avalon Community Hall, from
9:00am-Noon. One hour classes begin at 9:00am. The $20 donation for the class will benefit the
Education Project, Cape May County Village, in Haiti; visit www.CapeMayCountyVillage.com for more
information about the project.
Also on Saturday, Santa will return to The Princeton for a very special event for our four-legged friends.
There will be a free “Dog Pictures With Santa” event Saturday afternoon. Under the tent from
1:00-3:00pm, events continue from Friday including the bake sale and poinsettia sale, hot cocoa
sponsored by the Preppy Palm, face painting sponsored by the Avalon Chamber of Commerce, and Tea
Service courtesy of PK McCools.
Avalon will also offer a free trolley service on both Friday and Saturday.
